  1. Save and name a document in Pages on Mac The first time you save a document, you name it and choose where to save it—on your desktop or in a folder, for example. Thereafter, Pages automatically saves your document as you work. You can rename a document at any time or create a duplicate of it with a different name.
  2. OS X can't write in NTFS disks. If you want to write in NTFS drives, you have to use a third-party app like Paragon for NTFS, being this application the best one to write in those disks. Another option is to format the external disk in FAT32 or exFAT on a PC, so you will be able to read and write in Macs and PCs without having to use third.

This effectively disables the old-style, pre-Lion autosaving completely, so the sandbox won't complain anymore about TextEdit trying to automatically save stuff without your 'consent'. Another option, is a TextEdit fork called 'TextEdit+', that thankfully isn't sandboxed (surprisingly, TextEdit is actually open source). It can be downloaded here.

DAVE 4.0 is available from the Thursby e-store; the single-user retail price is US$149. Upgrades from previous versions are available.

Thursby Software Systems has announced the release of a free Mac OS X version of DAVE, their Mac to PC file sharing software. The company is demonstrating DAVE for Mac OS X at this week's show, and the free version can be downloaded from their Web site.

Company president William Thursby explained that this version of DAVE is being released for free because his company felt that they owed early Mac OS X adopters an interim PC to Mac file sharing solution while Apple continues to tool some key technologies they need to get everything to work.

'Apple's engineers have done an outstanding job of supporting us. Unfortunately, they just have not been able to complete the key features to allow us to properly integrate DAVE into Mac OS X in a timely manner,' said Thursby. 'We remain optimistic that we will be able to release a commercial version of DAVE for Mac OS X in the near future, but for now we felt that we owed early adopters of Mac OS X an interim solution.'
